ABOUT THE FILM

Schools, Space & Silence: The Architecture of Structural Violence in Baltimore examines how historical housing discrimination, redlining, urban renewal, disinvestment, and school closures have shaped Baltimore’s neighborhoods and educational opportunities.

Through community voices, archival materials, spatial and policy research, and original cinematography, the film explores how decisions about schools, housing, land, and investment become embedded in the physical and social structure of the city.

At its center is a question of place and power: how communities experience institutional loss, how those experiences are preserved in public memory, and how residents continue to resist, rebuild, and shape the future of their neighborhoods.
